Should I change my Windows scroll setting for better smoothness?

Yes! For the best ButterScroll experience, we recommend setting “Lines to scroll at a time” to 1 in your Windows Mouse settings. This gives ButterScroll finer control over scrolling, making it feel smoother and more natural.

Is ButterScroll compatible with all applications?

ButterScroll is designed to work seamlessly with most Windows applications. However, if you encounter any compatibility issues, you can disable ButterScroll for specific apps through the settings.

Does ButterScroll work on Windows 10 and 11?

Yep! ButterScroll works great on both Windows 10 and Windows 11. Just make sure your system’s up to date for the smoothest scrolling experience.

Will my antivirus or firewall block ButterScroll?

Nope! ButterScroll is completely safe and doesn’t access any sensitive parts of your system.

It’s been tested with Windows Defender — no alerts, no flags.

If your antivirus or firewall ever warns you, it’s likely because ButterScroll is new and unsigned (we’re a tiny team, not a big corp).

You can purchase and activate multiple licenses using the same email address. Each purchase gives you a unique license key that can be used to activate ButterScroll on one computer.

So if you're setting up on 3 or 10 different PCs, just complete separate purchases — and you're all set!

I lost my license key. What should I do?

If you've misplaced your license key, contact our support team with your purchase details, and we'll resend it to you.

ButterScroll doesn't work in some apps like Visual Studio or Task Manager. What can I do?

Some applications — such as Visual Studio, Task Manager, and other tools that run with elevated permissions — may block ButterScroll from working properly. This is due to how Windows restricts input from non-administrator processes for security reasons.

To resolve this:

1. Exit ButterScroll by right-clicking the tray icon and selecting ``Exit``.

2. Right-click the ButterScroll shortcut on your desktop or in the Start menu.

3. Choose “Run as administrator”.

If this solves the issue, you can make ButterScroll always run as administrator:

1. Right-click the shortcut → Properties → Compatibility tab

2. Check “Run this program as an administrator”

3. Click OK to save

This will allow ButterScroll to function correctly in apps that require elevated privileges.

Does ButterScroll collect any personal data?

No. ButterScroll respects your privacy and does not collect or transmit any personal data. All settings are stored locally on your device.

What happens after the free trial ends?

After the 15-day free trial, you'll need to purchase a license to continue using ButterScroll. We offer a one-time payment option for lifetime access.

How do I purchase a license?
